Our method

How we pick a memory foam pillow

Our method comes down to five principles, applied to every model before it enters the catalogue.

Our five criteria

  1. Sorted by theme, by color and by country. That is how we found out that the most frequent question is not about comfort at all — it is about the difference between the two sides.
  2. We publish what buyers wrote. Their words, with the photographs they published alongside them.
  3. The photographs settle what specifications do not. Examining them is how we confirmed the geometry of the two sides.
  4. Every number is traceable. A figure that cannot be traced back to its source does not go on this site.
  5. We publish what buyers report. Memory foam is firm for the first few nights: it is the remark that comes up most from buyers moving off a soft pillow, and it is on the product page.

When to see someone

Neck pain that persists, wakes you at night, or travels down the arm calls for medical advice. A doctor or a physical therapist will give you a diagnosis that no product page replaces. Every order is covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee.

Measuring shoulder width, standing, to choose the height

What we measure on a pillow

Four measurements, in this order, because none of them makes up for another.

Height under load. What is left once 9 to 11 lb (4–5 kg) is resting on it. That is what decides the angle of your neck, and it appears on no product description: it has to be tried.

How it holds up over time. A filling that rises again in the morning and one that stays dented do not give you the same night six months later. Reviews written after several months of use are the ones we read most closely.

The geometry. How many sides, the height of each, whether there are side wings, how deep the central hollow runs. That is what separates a genuine contour pillow from a rectangle sold as one.

Care. Whether the cover comes off or is sewn on, what wash temperature it takes, how it behaves when dried. A cover that cannot be removed condemns the pillow within months.

How we read a buyer photograph

A review photograph is opened, enlarged, and looked at — not counted. It is slow work that pays, because a photograph shows what no text says.

We look for two things in it. Does the geometry hold up from a real angle — the central hollow, the low bolster, the two side wings? And does the height under the head match what the text of the review describes?
